A gasoline tanker truck accident in Little Havana this morning has led to a significant gasoline leak and road closures. The incident occurred at approximately 4:14 a.m. when a car collided with the tanker, prompting the gas spill. Miami Fire Rescue dispatched its Hazmat team to deal with the emergency, containing the leak with absorbent materials, booms, and storm drain protection. However, as of the last update, the area remains Closed off to traffic, as reported by NBC Miami.
The tanker carried a considerable load of 9,000 gallons of gasoline, and authorities were forced to wait about three hours for a secondary tanker to transfer the unleaded fuel, as noted by the same NBC Miami report. "Our Hazmat team mitigated the leak by putting absorbent, booms, and protecting the storm drains from run off," stated the fire department, underscoring that there was no immediate danger to the public despite the leak.
Following the incident, the Miami Police Department issued a traffic alert on their official X page, advising motorists to avoid the affected area. "Due to a gasoline truck leaking gasoline, we have temporarily closed 27 Avenue (North and South) from W. Flagler Street to SW 2 Street. Please avoid this area," read the post from Miami PD's X.
