The shooting that led to the death of a Roswell police officer is now under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). Last Friday, around 7:15 p.m., a suspicious individual near Market Boulevard caught an officer’s attention. Upon confronting the person of interest, 23-year-old Edward Espinoza, gunfire erupted, fatally wounding the officer, according to the GBI.
Following the confrontation in the parking space adjacent to the ACE Pickleball Club, witnesses quickly flooded 911 with calls, leading to Espinoza's swift arrest by the responding officers. Although speedily transported to a local hospital, the injuries claimed the officer's life. Edward Espinoza, confirmed as a U.S. citizen, now faces several serious charges, including malice murder and aggravated assault on a peace officer, as per an update provided by the GBI.
The GBI is diligently working to piece together the evening's events and is urging the community to come forward with any peripheral information that might illuminate the case further. This investigation, once finalized, will be handed over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, determining Espinoza's prosecution.
The deceased officer's name has not yet been released, while the GBI's ongoing investigation seeks to deliver a comprehensive account of the incident's circumstances. The GBI has encouraged anyone with potentially enlightening information to not hesitate in contacting the authorities.
