A Germantown man, identified as 59-year-old David L. Beck, was found dead inside his residence following a house fire that broke out amid a domestic disturbance investigation on Friday afternoon, local authorities reported. According to Action News 5, the Germantown Police Department responded to the situation just after 1 p.m. at Beck's house located in the Kimbrough area on Cavershamwood Lane.
Upon arriving in response to the call for a domestic disturbance involving an "armed individual," officers met with the caller outside the house in a move to establish contact with Beck, who was reported to be inside at that time. While the officers attempted to engage with Beck, fire and smoke were noticed emanating from his home, as reported by FOX13 Memphis, prompting them to summon the Germantown Fire Department.
The fire escalated into a major blaze, producing a plume of smoke visible as far as Midtown Memphis. Firefighters worked to control and eventually extinguish the flames by 5 p.m. After the fire was put out, reports indicated that Beck's body was found inside the heavily damaged structure.
Shelby County property records confirm that Beck was one of the homeowners of the property. Footage from the scene revealed significant damage to Beck's residence. As investigators work to determine the events leading up to the fatal fire, the Germantown Police Department has stated that the investigation into the cause and circumstances is still ongoing, as per WREG.
