A Glendale community was shaken when a car, driven by 22-year-old Celeste Downer, careened into a residence, leaving a scene of destruction in its wake. FOX 10 Phoenix reports that the tragic incident occurred just before 8:00 p.m. on November 10, 2024, near 67th Avenue and Beardsley Road, as Amanda Rogers, a 35-year-old mother, was preparing for the holidays by decorating her Christmas tree.

Authorities indicate that Downer was both drunk and high during the time of the crash, with a blood alcohol content of 0.124, according to court records sourced by 12 News. Rogers, who sustained critical injuries, was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries on November 18. Under the weight of these revelations, the Glendale Police Department leveled a charge of second-degree murder against Downer on February 5.

Additionally, it has been reported by FOX 10 Phoenix that Downer had passengers in her vehicle, one of whom was her teenage brother. The presence of innocents caught up in this maelstrom of poor decision-making only deepens the complexity of Downer's situation.

As the legal process unfolds, the bond for Downer is set at $500,000.
