For the first time, the Department of the Attorney General in Hawaiʻi is moving its Asset Forfeiture Program auctions online. Starting February 18, the public will have the opportunity to bid on a variety of items all from the comfort of their own home. Traditionally held at the Blaisdell Center, the quarterly live auctions have been reimagined for the digital space. "While online auctions are not a new idea, the launch of our auction website is a first for our office," said Asset Forfeiture Program Manager Kern Nishioka, in a statement obtained by the Governor's office.

The online auction will showcase an array of vehicles primarily, with potential buyers already eyeing the preview list of cars, trucks, and SUVs. In the mix is a commercial fishing boat and trailer, alongside something a bit more distinctive – Morgan silver dollar coins. Starting at 3 p.m. on February 18, these first listings go live, ready for the public to lay their bids. As more items become available, further listings will be peppered in, with auction closure dates varying between items.

Individuals eager to participate should note that registrations are required. With the demand for a free eHawaii.gov account, it's open to anyone 18 and over looking to get in on the action. To get involved and for a full rundown on the rules of the game – from how to register and bid – interested parties should visit the department’s online auction page and the Asset Forfeiture Program page for all necessary information, as per the Governor's office.

These auctions offer more than just a one-of-a-kind shopping experience—they support a meaningful cause. Proceeds are dedicated to funding essential law enforcement initiatives, covering training and equipment costs.
