
An Annapolis high school student was shot yesterday afternoon during a soccer game on a field behind Wiley Bates Complex senior center at 129 S Villa Avenue. According to CBS News Baltimore, authorities arrived at the scene around 3:47 p.m. to find the Hispanic male victim, whose age was not disclosed, seriously injured and was subsequently flown to a shock trauma center for treatment, where he was described as "alive and alert," according to police statements.
The incident occurred near other community facilities, including Annapolis's Boys and Girls Club. In an urgent response, the Annapolis Police Department acknowledged that as young people were playing on the athletic field, they were actively working around the clock to determine why this very dangerous act of violence occurred. They also stressed the importance of locating the weapon and apprehending the individuals responsible, as detailed by WMAR-2 News.
Police also indicated that there was no immediate evidence suggesting the shooting was a random act of violence. The investigation into this shooting is ongoing, and authorities have pledged to release more information as it becomes available.
