Honolulu's weather this week is expected to remain calm and typical for the season. Light winds and occasional showers are on the horizon, but nothing unusual is forecasted. Through Thursday, the weather will stay mostly dry and stable, with winds shifting southward and picking up speed. Toward the end of the week, a weakening front could bring increased showers, particularly to the western islands, according to the National Weather Service.

Radar imagery indicates only a handful of light showers currently affecting windward slopes and coasts. However, "showers will slowly increase in coverage and intensity over the western islands Thursday night into Friday," the forecast notes. These showers will primarily target southern slopes and coasts, which means that Kauai, in particular, may experience more rain and even some potential downpours. For those situated on the windward Big Island, a little more wetness moves in from the east, contributing to increased shower activity through the weekend.

Aviation forecasts suggest flying conditions should mostly be clear. Light to moderate east-southeast winds are expected today, and while some sea breezes may come into play, VFR conditions will prevail. Marine conditions echo the same, promising gentle southeast or variable winds for much of the island chain. For water enthusiasts, it's worth noting that a High Surf Advisory is in effect through early Thursday morning for various shores across the islands.

Looking ahead, "a new front will strengthen south to southwest winds and bring unsettled weather, and potentially heavy showers, into the area Sunday through early next week," according to the NWS. This may lead to a more robust trade winds pattern by next Tuesday, although some moisture may linger. Surfers may also be pleased to hear that another large pulse of west-northwest swell is expected by Friday and Saturday, offering some action on the waves.
