As the festive spirit of Carnival season grips the streets of Jefferson Parish, local commuters are being advised to take note of several important changes to the public transportation schedules. The alterations, aimed at accommodating the throngs of revelers and the grand pageantry of parades, have been announced by Jefferson Parish Transit and will remain in effect through March 4. The Transit Authority has released a detailed plan of the service changes to guide passengers during the revelry moments.
Foremost, the E1 – Veterans-Airport route is set for a temporary shake-up beginning Friday, February 16, continuing until the conclusion of Mardi Gras celebrations. The route will be detoured from Veterans/Clearview to City Park Avenue, with the last stop before the detour being Veterans at Clearview, before resuming its regular path post-parade. Moreover, on Mardi Gras Day, loyal patrons of public transport will need to seek alternative means, as E1 services come to a halt — Jefferson Parish Transit disclosed this information in a statement intended to prepare residents and visitors for the upcoming adjustments.
In the cases of the E2 – Airline, no changes have been announced for the Endymion Parade, slated for Saturday, March 1. However, come Mardi Gras Day, alterations to E2 are expected, with the detour initiating at Tulane and S. Claiborne and the last departure set for 9:27 p.m., an essential detail for those reliant on this route for their evening commutes. This scheduling consideration grants a modicum of predictability amidst the pandemonium of parade day logistics, as reported by the Jefferson Parish Transit.
The E3 – Jefferson Highway route will also experience modifications in light of Lundi Gras festivities in Kenner. According to details released by the Jefferson Parish Transit Authority, the last pick-up before the Lundi Gras detour will be at Jefferson Highway at Maria, thereafter guiding the buses through a series of local streets to reconnect with their regular trajectory. The full extent of these changes, along with recommended detour routes, are detailed on the Jefferson Parish Transit website for ease of navigation.
