Kansas City drivers, brace yourselves for some disruption this week as crews dig into the asphalt veins of I-70 for geotechnical scoping work. According to MoDOT, closures on both eastbound and westbound I-70 started yesterday and will continue through Friday.
Yesterday, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., the eastbound exit and on-ramps at U.S. 40 were closed, potentially clogging morning commutes. The same zones will see closures again, adding to the inconvenience for local travelers, leaving alternate routes congested and drivers' patience thin. Today, the left lane of eastbound I-70 will be closed just west of Jackson Ave., extending past Oakley Ave., once again during those prime daytime hours.
Things take a revised tomorrow, between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., to be exact — interstate wanderers will find the I-70 westbound on-ramp at Truman St. tantalizingly out of reach, a change from previous advisements; add to that, a right lane shutdown on the westbound exit ramp to Van Brunt just to spice things up. As the workweek closes on Friday, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., that pesky ramp from eastbound I-70 to Van Brunt Blvd. will also bid drivers adieu.
"Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones," MoDOT has warned, recognizing that not all work zones look alike, which can mislead unsuspecting drivers. They can range from routine operations, such as striping, patching, or mowing, to sudden stops or short-term, temporary lane closures for quick fixes or clearing road debris.
