The Kaua‘i Police Activities League (K-PAL) has opened a new multipurpose court to promote positive engagement between law enforcement and the youth of Līhu‘e. The court, located next to the Kaua‘i Philippine Cultural Center, officially opened yesterday and will host various sports, including basketball and pickleball, for the island's younger residents.
In a statement obtained by the County of Kaua‘i, the official opening of the court was marked by speeches from local figures, including Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami and Police Chief Todd G. Raybuck, along with a spiritual blessing from Police Chaplain Jade Wai’ale’ale Battad. To further support community growth, K-PAL has expanded its programs, which saw over 1,100 children participating in activities such as flag football, boxing, jiu-jitsu, and wrestling last year.
The organization supports a drug-free lifestyle and focuses on empowering youth to reach their potential through various activities, mentorship, and enjoyment. The new facility is designed to facilitate positive interactions between young people and Kaua‘i's law enforcement officers, aiming to strengthen community ties based on respect and understanding. The completion of the project is the result of collaboration among community partners and county agencies, with K-PAL acknowledging their collective effort.
Parents seeking to enroll their children in K-PAL’s programs can find more information on their official website. According to the County of Kaua‘i, parents are encouraged to review the available options and register their keiki.
