A 35-year-old man named Herrera Johnson has been arrested in Knoxville in relation to a shooting incident that occurred near downtown, as per reports from the Knoxville Police Department. Yesterday evening, just before 6:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Lula Powell Drive, where they found a 42-year-old man suffering from what was described as a small gunshot wound, according to WVLT. The victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital, and his injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
During the investigation, KPD officers quickly located Johnson behind 957 E. Hill Avenue. He showed signs of intoxication and was found in possession of a handgun and suspected fentanyl. In a follow-up interview with investigators from the department's Investigations Bureau, Johnson admitted to the shooting, as noted by WATE.
Charges leveled against Johnson include aggravated assault, possession of a firearm with intent to go armed, possession of schedule II drugs, and public intoxication. Court records obtained by WATE indicated that during the arrest, Johnson pointed to his jacket pocket and said, "My drugs," after being queried by an officer on whether he had any illegal items on his person.
