The Las Cruces community is mourning the loss of 24-year-old Sheila Nava, who died in a vehicular collision on February 13. As reported by the City of Las Cruces, Nava was driving a gold Chevrolet Trailblazer when it collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Griggs Avenue and Hermosa Street.
Traffic investigators revealed that Nava's Trailblazer, traveling south on Hermosa, was struck by a Chevy Impala coming from the west on Griggs. It's believed that the Trailblazer may have run a stop sign before the crash. Tragically, Nava was not wearing her seatbelt, resulting in her being ejected from the vehicle as it overturned. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The collision occurred in the afternoon around 3:20 p.m., bringing into sharp relief the implications of traffic safety and compliance with road signs. The driver of the Impala, a 22-year-old woman, fortunately sustained no serious injuries in the incident.
