Las Cruces police are currently investigating a fatal stabbing incident that took place on Tuesday near the intersection of Seventeenth Street and Picacho Avenue. According to the City of Las Cruces, officers responded to an emergency call shortly before noon about an altercation that involved a stabbing on North Seventeenth Street, just south of Picacho Avenue.
Upon arrival, first responders found a 26-year-old male victim with at least one stab wound. Tragically, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. As part of the investigation, police are actively trying to positively identify and locate the suspect, who was seen fleeing the scene on foot. They are also working to uncover the sequence of events that led to quickly escalate into this violent outcome.
The section of the intersection where the stabbing occurred has been temporarily closed to traffic. This allows the police to efficiently collect evidence and accurately map the crime scene. Commuters have been advised to seek out alternative routes around the intersection to avoid delays.
