
A man has perished in a rollover crash that occurred overnight Friday into Saturday in Aurora. The incident involved only a single vehicle and took place near the eastbound Interstate 70 off-ramp to southbound Interstate 225, as confirmed by a post from the Aurora Police Department on X shortly before 3 a.m., KDVR reports.
The aftermath of the crash led to closures that affected early morning traffic in the area. According to The Denver Post, the ramps for eastbound I-70 and southbound I-225 were closed for approximately six hours. Police spokesperson Sydney Edwards mentioned that it was too early to determine whether drugs alcohol or excessive speed were contributing factors in the crash. The roads have since reopened to traffic as of 8:04 a.m.
Fleshing out details about the victim, authorities have stated that identification will be provided by the Adams County Coroner's Office once available. As they carry on with their investigation, police are considering all variables to ascertain the cause of this fatal event. The 9News reported the ongoing nature of the investigation, which resulted in extended lane closures during the early hours.
Despite the interruption to traffic flow, CDOT cameras confirmed that the lanes were back open just after 8 a.m. This incident has garnered the attention of local drivers and raised concerns about safety on this stretch of road. The Aurora Police Department continues to investigate the incident and has not released further details about the potential causes of the crash as of yet.
