Following an incident yesterday in Forest Park, a 35-year-old man was hospitalized after being shot multiple times during what appeared to be a burglary gone wrong. The shooting occurred around 11 a.m. in the 4400 block of Forest Park, where District 5 officers were called to the scene.
Upon arrival, police discovered the injured man, who claimed he was trying to force entry to retrieve a friend's belongings from the residence, when the resident inside fired at him, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. The man was subsequently transported to the hospital and listed in stable condition, EMS confirmed.
Officers investigating the event located a 62-year-old man at the residence, who admitted to the shooting. The older resident, confirmed to be a convicted felon, acknowledged his actions in the presence of law enforcement.
Currently, officers are coordinating with the Circuit Attorney’s Office to determine appropriate charges. No formal charges had been announced at the time of reporting, and the investigation is ongoing. Details around the intended retrieval of belongings, and the legality of the 35-year-old's entrance attempt remain unclear, the Circuit Attorney's Office is tasked with the decision of how to proceed in this convoluted case.
