A man injured in a domestic violence incident in Phoenix was subsequently involved in a vehicular collision in Tempe while allegedly driving himself to a hospital, according to law enforcement reports. Phoenix Police responded to a fight call at an apartment in Ahwatukee, a part of Phoenix, near Warner Road and 48th Street, where an altercation between a man and a woman escalated with a family member intervening, per FOX 10 Phoenix. The suspect, later involved in the Tempe crash, is believed to have sustained his injuries during this dispute.
The incident led to significant traffic disruptions at the intersection of Priest Drive and Warner Road, traffic restrictions ensued for an extended duration. Phoenix Police conveyed that the suspect was "highly uncooperative on scene, and refused to explain how he got hurt," but did confirm intentions to book the individual post-hospital release, according to FOX 10 Phoenix. The sequence of these events hints at a tumultuous, fragmented narrative, one where a private dispute spilled out onto public roadways, ultimately drawing a curtain of blue and red lights across the desert sprawl.
Over in Tempe, the collision involved two other vehicles and occurred shortly after noon. The drivers of the other vehicles sustained minor injuries but did not require hospital transport, as reported by AZ Family. Initial reports from Tempe Police suggested that the suspect had been shot in the head, however, later Phoenix Police assessments contradicted these statements, clarifying that his injuries were not consistent with a gunshot wound.
"He was going pretty fast," recounted the driver of a white van involved in the crash, identified only as ‘Richard.’ "I think from the looks of it, he was going over 67 miles per hour, so he was going fast," he told FOX 10 Phoenix. This account highlights the frenetic pace at which these incidents unfolded, piecing together a timeline where the hurtling of one man's sedan across city lines, intersects with the lives of unsuspecting commuters.
The intersection was closed for the duration of the investigation but is now open once more. The investigations into both the crash by Tempe Police and the domestic violence incident by Phoenix Police are ongoing
