The Manteca Police Department has launched a new traffic safety initiative that aims to deter red-light violations at some of the city's most problematic intersections. According to a post on the department's social media, the program began last Saturday, February 15, and employs advanced camera technology to identify drivers who run red lights.

For the initial 30 days known as the warning period, noted as starting from the program's inception, individuals caught on camera will receive warning notices, this being a grace period to adapt before actual fines are levied, the first intersection to be monitored is Daniels Street and Airport Way, and more key crossroads are slated for surveillance, including intersections at Commerce Way/Northwoods Avenue and Yosemite Avenue, North Main Street and Northgate Drive, Union Road and West Yosemite Avenue as well as North Main Street and East Louise Avenue.

Manteca's Police Chief Stephen Schluer highlighted the importance of the Red-Light Traffic Safety Program, saying, "We want the public to know how seriously we take this growing issue. This warning period will give our community plenty of time to change their driving behavior before risking fines." After 30 days, drivers who are captured by these cameras running red lights will face steep fines, specifically $490 for each infraction, as per Manteca Police Department.
