The dedicated student musicians of Mariachi los Gatos Salvajes have once again struck a chord of success, securing their third straight invitation to the UIL State Mariachi Festival. As reported by Fabens Independent School District, the ensemble's performance on February 1 at Eastwood High School resonated with the judges, earning them a spot among the best high school mariachi groups in Texas.
"Making it to UIL State for the third consecutive year is an incredible achievement for Mariachi los Gatos Salvajes," said Ms. Carrasco, Mariachi Director, as per Fabens Independent School District, highlighting the students' tireless work ethic. Carrasco further expressed pride in representing their community's profound musical heritage at such a prestigious event. Superintendent Dr. Rogelio Segovia, on behalf of the Fabens ISD Board of Trustees, extended heartfelt congratulations to the ensemble, acknowledging their continuous hard work and representation of Fabens ISD.
The talented musicians of Los Gatos Salvajes, embodying passion and dedication, do not only aim for recognition but also the celebration of their cultural identity through music. Mya Orozco, the mariachi vice president, and Fabens High School sophomore, conveyed her pride in the group's achievement, saying, "What makes me happy is this has been our most challenging piece, and it has taken us to state for the third year in a row! This is such an accomplishment," as reported by Fabens Independent School District. Echoing the sentiment, Fabens Middle School student Celeste Delgado shared her hopes for clinching the state championship, asserting the group's hard-earned place in the competition.
The spotlight now turns to February 20, when Los Gatos Salvajes will take the stage in Seguin, Texas, to contend in the 4A category of the UIL State Mariachi Festival against the other top high school ensembles this competition serves not just as a battleground but as a congregation, a place where the sounds of tradition, unity, and youthful exuberance will resonate, reflecting a culture that prides itself on rich musical expressions and the relentless pursuit of excellence among its young expositors.
