Miami-Dade County has been recognized for its water conservation efforts, with the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) receiving the Best in Class award from the Florida Section American Water Works Association (FSAWWA). WASD's Comprehensive Water Conservation Program was praised for its innovative approach to conserving water in Florida.

According to the Miami-Dade County release, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said, "I congratulate our Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department on this remarkable achievement." She emphasized that the award highlights the department's efforts in water conservation and its work to empower the community to preserve water. The program has led to a significant decline in water demand in the county since its launch in 2007, thanks to indoor and outdoor rebate programs and a twice-a-week landscape irrigation schedule, resulting in a reduction of 21 gallons per day per resident over 17 years.

WASD Interim Director Amanda Kinnick highlighted the department's dedication, saying, "Our Conservation Division works hard to develop initiatives and strategies that positively affect the reduction of water consumption," in the same release. She linked the program's success to the county’s goal of efficient water use and preparing for future water supply needs.

WASD’s #WaterIsLife campaign also received an honorable mention at the award ceremony. The campaign has raised public awareness about the importance of water by engaging residents and highlighting their personal connections to this essential resource. The department remains committed to providing reliable service, with more information available on the WASD website.
