A SWAT standoff in Miami ended with the capture of a suspect involved in an armed carjacking, authorities confirmed. The incident took place when the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Special Response Team surrounded an apartment complex near Southwest 27th Avenue and Southwest 26th Street, as reported by WSVN. Armored trucks were used to block the road.
Deputies executed a search warrant early in the morning for Tyler Robinson, who is accused of participating in the carjacking. Using a megaphone, deputies commanded, "Apartment 304 come out with your hands up," as reported by WSVN.
Video footage from the scene showed deputies instructing the suspect to exit the building and using flash bangs, as reported by NBC Miami. Robinson was taken into custody after deputies successfully apprehended him. A firearm, possibly linked to the crime, was recovered.
The Sheriff's Office had been searching for Robinson since July after an Uber Eats driver was accosted by four men, one of whom brandished a gun. The suspects fled in the driver's car, which was later found. Fingerprints recovered from the vehicle led to Robinson's apartment. Local resident Daniel Nino told WSVN, "You deal with people everyday. You don’t who’s who. Everybody is behind closed doors it can be whatever so you really don’t wants going to happen."
Authorities have not disclosed whether other suspects have been apprehended. Robinson is expected to appear before a judge for a bail hearing. Details on the charges he faces are still to be clarified.
