The City of Minneapolis is charting the future of The People's Way at George Floyd Square, and locals are invited to weigh in. On February 26, the city government will host a community event to showcase proposals from four non-profit organizations aiming to redevelop the storied space. According to a social media post by the City of Minneapolis Government, those who can't make it to the main event will have alternative opportunities, with pop-up events being set up to engage the residents. The next available session for community members to drop in and learn more about the redevelopment process will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 15.

Ensuring public participation stands as a priority for the city staff overseeing the project, and they are taking the conversation to the streets. With several pop-up events, they are reaching out to people in places scattered throughout the city where they normally convene. These informal gatherings are designed to make it easier for residents to access information and share their thoughts outside of traditional forums.

The intersection of 38th Street and Chicago Avenue, now known as George Floyd Square, has become a symbol of racial justice and community healing in the wake of George Floyd's death in 2020.
