He is a hero because of how he lived his life," as stated by the Minneapolis Police Department. The tribute emphasizes his "bravery, dedication, and service to this community," calling him "exceptional" and saying he "set a standard for us all."
The message continues with a touch of condolence, "To his family and loved ones—our hearts are with you today and every day as we continue to mourn alongside you." The Minneapolis Police Department closed their online homage with a poignant farewell, "Rest easy, Officer Mitchell. We have the watch from here."
