Attention drivers: Brace yourselves for overnight traffic disruptions on Interstate 70 this week and next. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced closures of westbound lanes between Belleau Creek and Spencer Creek for pavement repairs. If your plans involve late-night travel in that stretch, you'll want to take note of the detour ahead.
Starting tomorrow, MoDOT will begin its repair work at 8 p.m., targeting up to two left lanes at Spencer Creek. Come daylight at 5 a.m. Friday morning, the repairs are expected to conclude for that segment. However, the respite will be brief as the process repeats itself the following night with two left lanes closing at 8 p.m. Friday, and then shifting to two right lanes. These closures are not expected to lift until 9 a.m. Saturday morning, according to an announcement on MoDOT's website.
But wait, there's more. A third round of closures on westbound I-70 at Belleau Creek is slated for March 7. In this phase, up to three westbound lanes will shutter at 8 p.m. and are scheduled to reopen at 9 a.m. the following day, Saturday, March 8. These repairs are all weather permitting, so keep an eye on the forecast and MoDOT advisories for any shifts in timing.
All this means planning ahead is essential. Delays are inevitable, and while MoDOT will likely have detour signs in place, savvy navigators will consider alternate routes or adjusting their travel times to avoid the construction zones altogether. With infrastructure maintenance a necessary but often inconvenient reality, local commuters and through travelers alike will need to practice a bit of patience while the roadwork is underway. Keep your eyes peeled for updates as these dates approach and plan for a slight detour in your night travel on I-70.
