A man with a previous record of conviction has been arrested and indicted of second-degree murder related to the overdose death of a Nashville man just over a year ago. Bobby Joe Love Jr., 36, a convicted felon with a series of past sentences, was taken into custody by the Metro Nashville Police Department last Friday, as WSMV reported.

The deceased, Nathan McEwen, age 38, was found by a family member in an apartment on Pennington Avenue on January 2, 2024. Suggesting a link to Love, drugs were located in McEwen's wallet, and it has been concluded that fentanyl and cocaine intoxication caused his death, as per the medical examiner's office. According to FOX 17, the arrest follows a months-long investigation that culminated in identifying Love as the person who allegedly sold McEwen the fatal drugs.

On the day of his arrest, Love attempted to flee when detectives approached him outside his place of employment on 19th Avenue South. Love was subsequently charged with resisting arrest and evading arrest after a brief foot chase, adding to his history of convictions. Previously, in 2017, he received a six-year sentence for aggravated assault and unlawful gun possession, on top of a six-year probated Community Corrections sentence in 2014 for facilitating aggravated robbery, as well as a two-year sentence in 2008 for car burglary, as detailed by WKRN.

Currently held in the Downtown Detention Center, Love's bond has been set at $110,000. He is facing multiple charges, including the felony second-degree murder charge, felony possession with intent, misdemeanor resisting police, and misdemeanor evading arrest, according to information obtained by the Davidson County Sheriff's Office reported by WKRN.
