The historic East Brother Light Station, nestled in San Francisco Bay near the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, has found its new custodians. Danielle La Vigne and Rachel Colvin are slated to become the latest keepers of the iconic lighthouse come April 1, as per a social media update from Richmond Mayor Tom Butt. La Vigne, a certified 100-ton Master with experience in operating tour boats and managing bars, and Colvin, whose background includes a medley of roles from lifeguard to construction contractor, will commence training on March 22 to prepare for their new roles.

Recently vacated by Dre and Charity Elmore, who offered "two years of extraordinary service," the position at East Brother Light Station does not shy away from adventure or responsibility. The new keepers, while taking hold of the tranquility and isolation unique to island life, will simultaneously juggle duties associated with running the Light Station's bed-and-breakfast. Charity's shift from farmhouse living and Dre's maritime experience was highlighted in the transition, keeping with the spirit of East Brother's multifaceted needs, as Hoodline reports.

The uncommon job, which includes housekeeping, guest meal preparation, and coordinating volunteer activities in addition to leading tours, offers not only a $140,000 incentive but also a serene living environment. However, prospective applicants should note the light station's quirks: the absence of a wired phone or internet service and the preciousness of water, which dictates that showers become less frequent indulgences.
