
The North Las Vegas community and law enforcement are mourning the death of Officer Jason Roscow, who was killed in a shootout on Tuesday afternoon. Roscow, a 17-year veteran of the North Las Vegas Police Department, was fatally shot while responding to a report of a person with a handgun near Lone Mountain and Camino Al Norte. The incident, which also resulted in the death of the suspect, was the department's first officer-involved shooting of 2025.
According to News3LV, Officer Roscow, 46, served in various roles during his career, including in the Traffic Division and Patrol Operations. He was awarded the Exemplary Service Award. "Officer Roscow was more than a colleague, he was a friend, a mentor, and a valued member of our law enforcement family," the North Las Vegas Police Department stated.
Officer Roscow is survived by his two sons, 9-year-old Graysen and 4-year-old Andrew. As per the FOX 5 report, a procession honoring him took place on the evening of his death, leading from the Clark County Coroner's Office to Palm Downtown Mortuary and Cemetery. Funeral services are planned, and Officer Roscow will be laid to rest in his hometown of Prairie du Rocher, Illinois. The Injured Police Officers' Fund has set up an account for donations at Lexicon Bank (Account #1000010630) to support the officer’s family.
Eyewitnesses described the incident as intense, with one local resident, Toni Cooper, saying, "It sounded just like a Western shootout," in a statement as per a Hoodline report. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department expressed support for the North Las Vegas Police Department, acknowledging that the officer made the ultimate sacrifice in his service to the community.
