Oakland Police Department has made an arrest in the case of the fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of 77-year-old Michael Burawoy, a resident of Oakland. The accident, which occurred on February 3 at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Park View Terrace, took Burawoy's life as he was walking in a marked crosswalk just before 7:15 p.m. Following an investigation, officers from the OPD's Traffic Unit identified and apprehended the vehicle's driver responsible for the collision, as stated in a press release from the Oakland Police Department.
Details of the tragic incident were reported earlier this month, prompting the authorities to urge community members to come forward with any pertinent information. The collision reportedly occurred when the vehicle, driving westbound on Grand Avenue, struck Burawoy in the crosswalk. After the impact, witnesses reported that the driver left the scene without providing assistance or waiting for law enforcement to arrive. Calls for tips and leads were made with the hope of a breakthrough, leading to today's arrest and a renewed plea for additional information from anyone who may know more about the events leading up to the accident.
The OPD continues to investigate the circumstances of the hit-and-run, and they have requested that anyone with insights reach out to the Traffic Investigation Unit at (510) 777-8570.
