Following an officer-involved shooting on the streets of East Oakland, the Oakland Police Department is currently leading an investigation into the events that transpired yesterday. The incident began when OPD responded to reports of a man allegedly pointing a firearm at residents in the 900 block of 92nd Avenue, according to a social media post by the Oakland Police Department.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers encountered the suspect, who proceeded to point the gun at them. This action led to officers discharging their weapons. The suspect, however, managed to flee before being apprehended at a secondary location where additional shots were fired. Fortunately, the suspect was detained with minor injuries and transported to a nearby hospital. As a part of the OPD's standard operating procedure, the involved personnel have been placed on paid administrative leave pending further investigation.
The matter does not rest merely with the OPD's internal review. The case is also subject to scrutiny from independent bodies, including the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office and the Community Police Review Agency, both undertaking their own investigations.
