Oceanside residents and commuters must adjust their travel plans later this month as the Division Street overpass bridge is set for a short-term closure to allow for much-needed improvements. The construction, which aims to extend the bridge deck's lifespan, will commence on Saturday and is projected to conclude on Tuesday, March 4, according to an announcement from the City of Oceanside's official social media post.
🔺TRAFFIC ALERT: @SDCaltrans will temporarily close the Division Street overpass bridge for 10 days from 2/22 to 3/4 for maintenance. The sidewalk will remain open and protected for pedestrians and bicyclists. #Oceanside pic.twitter.com/GqfDjuCkdF

Despite the inconvenience to motorists, the project designates that the sidewalk of the bridge will remain accessible for pedestrians and cyclists. Preserving this passage comes with caveats; an 8-foot barrier will protect travelers. However, cyclists are required to dismount and proceed on foot. To facilitate the safety of young scholars, flaggers are set to marshal the area during school hours, the City's social media update explained.
Detours have been announced to aid displaced traffic. Drivers heading eastbound on Division Street should use S. Horne Street to reach Mission Avenue and then Brooks Street back towards the bridge. Westbound vehicles will be directed onto Brooks Street, then Mission Avenue, taking a left turn to S. Horne Street, then a left onto Center Avenue, and finally a right that will put them back onto Division Street. Travelers are advised to plan to avoid delays surrounding the construction zone.
