
Oklahoma Highway Patrol responded to a harrowing incident on Interstate 40 near Peebly Road in Newalla, where a driver was hit by a semi after their vehicle crossed over into opposing lanes of traffic. Eyewitnesses indicated the driver ended up outside of their vehicle and was subsequently struck by the semi but reportedly survived the collision, according to OKC FOX.
The circumstances leading up to the crash became clearer in a report by News 4, which revealed the driver was suicidal and had purposefully crashed their car through a cable barrier before traversing the westbound lanes. The individual proceeded to exit their vehicle and run into traffic, ultimately being hit by an oncoming semi-truck hauling car. A statement obtained by News 4 noted that the individual was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene of the collision yesterday afternoon, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol confirmed the injury resulting from the alarming event.
