This Saturday, February 8, Tamarac is set to host their annual multicultural event which promises an array of international cuisine, performances, and family-friendly entertainment. The One Tamarac Multicultural Festival, taking place at the Tamarac Sports Complex at 9901 NW 77th St., is a free community event kicking off at 4 p.m. According to the city's announcement, attendees will be treated to main stage performances by Cachi Y Saoco Nuevo and Dancing on the Ceiling, a Lionel Richie tribute band. Rebecca “Butterfly” Vaughan, a talented spoken word artist, is set to host the evening.
Foodies will have more than 15 food trucks to choose from, serving global fares such as Caribbean dishes and frosted treats. Alongside the culinary delights, local businesses will set up shop packed with educational materials, while arts and crafts activities will offer a chance to explore cultural creativity. For young ones, the kid’s zone comes complete with bounce houses, face painting, life-size lawn games, and chances to snap photos with performers, according to the city's website.
The festivities continue with cultural performances from acts like Thai Nattasin, Venezuela Danza Y Tambor, Voces De America, Drake Irish Dance School, and the Junkanoo Band. These performances, taking place on the community stage from 5 to 6:30 p.m, will showcase international traditions and provide educational entertainment for festival-goers. The evening's musical segment starts with the vibrant rhythms of Cachi Y Saoco Nuevo, led by percussionist Phil Cachi Velez. Closing out the night will be the Lionel Richie tribute band, Dancing on the Ceiling, putting their spin on the artist's biggest hits.
Transportation logistics have been thoughtfully arranged to accommodate festival guests. Limited event parking is available, but free shuttles will run continuously from Tamarac City Hall and the Tamarac Community Center between 3:45 and 7:30 p.m., resuming after the laser light show concludes. An additional shuttle will service guests from the Caporella Park Overflow Lot at designated times. More information and shuttle schedules can be found on the city's event page.
Since its inception in 2018, the One Tamarac festival has been a mirror of the city's diversity, inclusivity, and the various identities within the community. Past festivals have drawn in close to 3,000 people.
