A member of a Canadian Neo-Nazi group, arrested last year for assault, faces new charges in Nashville. Ryan Scott McCann, 29, from Ontario, connected to the Goyim Defense League (GDL) — an antisemitic hate group — was indicted on charges of civil rights intimidation and assault following an additional incident.
Initially arrested on July 14 for assaulting a bartender with a flagpole, McCann was out on bond and monitored by an ankle device, but his recent indictment relates to a separate event in a 10th Avenue South parking lot, where he allegedly taunted and attacked a young Jewish man. According to the Nashville Police Department, the incident occurred late on July 13 but went unreported until Specialized Investigations Division (SID) detectives unearthed the altercation.
The victim, a 20-year-old from Clarksville, found himself antagonized by members of the GDL. Detectives' follow-up work led to his identification; this man was standing outside a vehicle that was also occupied by the hate group when the altercation occurred, during which McCann allegedly attempted a spinning elbow strike toward the victim's neck/head as he tried to escape, resulting in McCann further escalating the aggression with at least two kicks.
A Criminal Court Judge has since imposed an additional $50,000 bond following the indictment. McCann now remains behind bars as the case progresses.
