Orlando police have arrested and charged 55-year-old Ronald Davis in connection with a violent home invasion that resulted in the death of 85-year-old Lucy Pat Curl, who sadly passed away on February 5th. Despite facing serious allegations, Davis entered a plea of not guilty, as noted by documents released by the Orange County Clerk of Courts. According to FOX 35 Orlando, this written plea and waiver of arraignment mean Davis will not need to appear in court for the usual formal reading of the charges.
Davis, reportedly masquerading as a community services officer forced his way into Curl's home on January 31, assaulting her to the point of unconsciousness. He was found asleep in a nearby shed after the incident and has been held without bail since police say, as reported by WFTV. An outpouring of remembrance for Curl cascaded through the First Baptist Church of Orlando as hundreds gathered to celebrate her devotion to her community and her faith.
Lucy Pat Curl, wife of an Orlando pastor, was tragically taken off life support, succumbing to her injuries sustained during the home invasion. She is remembered for her long-lasting impact on the community, with her son, Philip Curl, reflecting on her life during the service, saying, "Mom taught us what it was like to be a Christian. Not just talking about it but living it out," as referenced in a WFTV interview.
Davis now faces charges of home invasion robbery with a weapon, aggravated battery on a person over 65 causing great bodily harm, and aggravated battery with a firearm.
