A large fire broke out at a two-story building in northwest Miami-Dade last night, prompting over 30 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units to respond. A two-alarm fire was also reported at a commercial building in Miami Gardens just after 6:30 p.m. More than 30 fire trucks responded to the fire at the intersection of Northwest Second Avenue and 188th Street, as WSVN reported.
According to Local 10, heavy smoke was seen coming from the building on Northwest Second Avenue when firefighters arrived. A witness recalled escaping by jumping from a second-floor window, saying, "I came out the window. I didn’t know where the fire was coming from. I couldn’t see nothing – I mean, I’m on second floor up there, so I just opened a window and jumped out."
The severity of the fire led to an upgrade in the emergency response, with additional units called in to help control the blaze. Firefighters used hoses on the roof and throughout the building to ensure all hot spots were extinguished. The fire was controlled without any reported injuries, as confirmed by Local 10. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
