In a commendable blend of academia and practical forensic science, Dr. Catherine Miller and the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner's Office have been acknowledged for their outstanding contributions to medical education. The accolade, announced on February 4, was presented by Florida Atlantic University's Schmidt College of Medicine and celebrated the office for providing the "Outstanding Clinical Teacher in an Elective". This honor reflects the office’s commitment to fostering exceptional training experiences for future medical professionals.
Palm Beach County’s Medical Examiner’s Office has earned a reputation as a top-tier elective choice for medical students, a sentiment echoed by the feedback of those immersed in the daily rigors of the rotation. With a focus on real-world application, the program shines as a beacon of hands-on learning. Voted the best elective rotation, according to a statement obtained by Palm Beach County Government, the education on offer bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skill.
Students have praised the elective for its comprehensive approach, appealing to a broad range of medical disciplines, not just those traditionally associated with pathology. "This was my favorite rotation in medical school! The teaching is phenomenal! All of the employees at the Medical Examiner's office are so welcoming and friendly towards students. I loved having the opportunity to observe autopsies every day. I was always learning something new from the variety of cases. I also loved having the opportunity to ride along with the death investigators to scenes. I would highly recommend this rotation to any medical student interested, regardless of what specialty they want to go into!" raved one student about the experience, as noted by the county's official announcement.
