A recent string of violent incidents at a Phoenix QuikTrip has the community on alert following a fatal stabbing and a separate deadly shooting within just days of each other. Last Sunday, around 7 p.m., 35-year-old Ryan Festa was stabbed at a bus stop near 27th Avenue and Thomas Road and then sought help at the QuikTrip location. Festa was transported to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. No suspects have been identified as of this time, and the investigation is ongoing, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, the incident has yet to yield any arrests. "The suspect left before police arrived. Currently, no suspects have been detained; however, detectives are actively following leads," Sgt. Phil Krynsky was quoted in a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix. The police have reached out to the public, urging anyone with information to come forward to possibly help swiftly solve the case.
A spokesperson for QuikTrip expressed gratitude toward the store's employees and customers who provided aid to the victim. "On Sunday night, an individual walked inside the QuikTrip location near 27th Avenue and Thomas Road seeking help for a stab wound suffered somewhere other than store property. While the individual’s injuries were fatal, we are grateful to the QuikTrip employees and customers who immediately provided assistance while waiting for first responders to arrive," said the spokesperson in a statement sent to ABC15.
This stabbing incident came shortly after a fatal shooting at the same QuikTrip location. In this earlier event, a man was killed in what police believe was a botched robbery attempt, and two suspects were taken into custody. Councilwoman Laura Pastor stated to ABC15, "My heart aches for the victim of a senseless stabbing at a bus stop that took the life of a person experiencing homelessness. I am grateful for the citizens who jumped in to try to save his life. This shows me that even in tumultuous political times, we are still willing to help those around us without (judgment)."
Pastor's comments also highlighted the potential impact of recent tax legislation on public safety, suggesting a link between funding cuts and an uptick in crime. As the investigation for the stabbing at QuikTrip proceeds, authorities are calling on anyone with pertinent information to contact the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6151 or to anonymously report to Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
