Phoenix is taking another step toward modernizing its public transportation with the introduction of its first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor, and the city is calling on you, the residents, to help shape this future pathway. Over the next couple of months, Phoenix residents will have multiple opportunities to lay down their thoughts, weigh in on two different BRT lane options, and hand over their feedback to the city's BRT team. To dive into the details before attending one of these sessions, locals can head to a Map of the corridor and the BRT specifics online, as reported by the City of Phoenix.
The BRT program aims to streamline Phoenix's public transit with high-capacity bus services that boast the potential for a faster and more reliable commute. Sessions welcoming community input are organized for the 35th Avenue corridor, starting in late February and extending through to early April. Meetings will take place at schools like Alta Vista Elementary and Carl Hayden High School, but those unable to attend in person can still participate through a virtual open house, as per the City of Phoenix. And, keeping in step with the digital age, you can even hit up the project's website for the 411.
Meanwhile, business owners can get in on the discussion with their dedicated workshops spanning February and March. All those sessions will be about hashing out the two proposed lane configurations, which will ultimately determine the efficiency and functionality of the BRT system on the 35th Avenue stretch. According to a statement made by the City of Phoenix, "Community input is critical at this stage and will help guide the design of BRT along this corridor."
