For residents of Multnomah County looking actively to shape their local education and fire safety boards, the May 20, 2025, Special District Election filing window is wide open. This window, which began last Saturday, will remain open until March 20, allowing prospective candidates just over a month to throw their hats into the ring, as per Multnomah County's website.
On the ballot are positions for school district boards, community college boards, and various other district boards, which include but are limited solely to the Urban Flood Safety and Water Quality District board. One of the critical dates to mark on the calendar is April 29, the voter registration deadline for this special election. Ballots are set to be mailed out to every registered voter, but those who haven't received their ballots by May 8 should contact Multnomah County Elections as soon as possible for a replacement.
When casting votes, the county offers two ways: mailing the ballots early or dropping them off at any official ballot drop site. Ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, May 20, and should arrive no later than seven days after to be still counted. Alternatively, voters can drop ballots off at designated drop sites until 8 p.m. on Election Night.
