Magotteaux Inc., a manufacturer of grinding wear parts and heat-resistant castings, has been recognized as part of the Tennessee Green Star Partnership. The program, led by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, recognizes manufacturers that implement continuous environmental improvements, according to the Department of Environment and Conservation.
Magotteaux's foundry in Pulaski is the only facility in North America that produces both grinding balls and castings for the cement, mining, and aggregate industries. The company has earned four International Organization of Standardization certifications, including International Organization of Standardization 14001 for environmental performance. Its sustainability efforts include repairing air leaks to save over 270,000 kWh of energy annually and recycling 2,000 pounds of materials each month. Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner David Salyers stated, "The Green Star Partnership program shines a light on businesses that put an emphasis on sustainability, and Magotteaux is an excellent example."
Magotteaux reduced energy consumption by 1.6 million kWh annually by scheduling baghouse downtime during off-production hours and saved another 2 million kWh through a lighting upgrade. To join the Tennessee Green Star Partnership, manufacturers must have an International Organization of Standardization 14001 certification and at least three years of environmental compliance with Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. Magotteaux’s inclusion in the program recognizes its adherence to these requirements.
