In a significant display of law enforcement cracking down on repeat DUI offenders, a 57-year-old man was taken into custody by Seattle police. He's facing considerable charges after causing a traffic collision while under the influence. The incident occurred in Seattle's Central District in the early hours last Friday when the driver, departing a parking lot, lost control of his vehicle and collided with a pedestrian signal pole, according to the Seattle Police Department.
The offender, observed by an on-duty officer at 23rd Avenue and East Cherry Street, was found to have an alcohol level more than double the legal limit. This incident follows previous convictions, including a felony DUI conviction, Driving While License Suspended 1st Degree, and an Ignition Interlock Device Violation. A breath test conducted by officers at the East Precinct after the crash confirmed the driver's intoxication.
Subsequent to the arrest, the suspect was booked into the King County Jail. With a history of convictions and the gravity of his latest offense, the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad and the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office recommended a $750k bail, citing the man as a continued risk to public safety. The hefty sum was subsequently granted with the suspect facing charges for DUI-Four or More Prior Offenses, and for violating Ignition Interlock requirements.
Further details on the incident and the suspect's legal proceedings are expected as the case evolves.
