Rockwall County is setting its sights on the future with the upcoming presentation of its strategic plan, dubbed 'Our Unity 2050.' Scheduled to be laid out before the public during the Rockwall County Commissioners Court meeting on March 11, the plan represents a roadmap for the county's growth and development over the next quarter-century. Devised in collaboration with Baker Tilly Advisory Group and Freese and Nichols, Inc., this blueprint has been crafted with significant input from local citizens through surveys, public forums, and a Citizen Steering Committee, as well as an in-depth analysis of public records and existing plans.
County Commissioner for Precinct 2, Dana K. Macalik, a lifelong resident and multiple-generation Rockwall County family member, speaks to the plan’s intentions, "Our team has dedicated countless hours to Unity 2050, and I am excited to see our hard work come together in a strong document that embodies our shared vision for a prosperous and vibrant Rockwall County," she told Rockwall County's official website. The plan focuses on sustaining growth responsibly, elevating government transparency, and ensuring collaboration with other local governments and representatives.
At the core of Unity 2050 is the intention to preserve the quality of life in Rockwall County by bolstering transportation networks, upgrading infrastructure, and conserving natural resources while simultaneously opening up economic prospects and upholding a community that respects the law. It also seeks to mitigate government overreach, which could stifle the county's vitality. The county has pledged to track progress with quarterly reviews and a more comprehensive reassessment at least every three to five years – a course of action aimed at keeping the plan both relevant and impactful in the dynamic landscape of local governance.
Residents interested in tracing the plan's progress are encouraged to stay informed through the county's website, where the plan will be accessible. It is set to go live on the website after the March 11 presentation. Additionally, the Commissioners Court will hold a session on March 25 to gather public commentary on the strategy. If all moves according to schedule, the Court will look to formally adopt the Strategic Plan the following month, in April.
