Sacramento is set to enhance its transit network with the addition of the Dos Rios Station on the Blue Line. This new development, celebrated with a recent groundbreaking ceremony, promises to bring improved access to the River District and the Mirasol Village housing community. According to Sacramento City Express, Mayor Kevin McCarty expressed that the new station will foster "community, sustainability, and economic growth and equity."

Leaders from local, state, and federal levels have recognized the station's potential impact. "This project is about more than just adding a new station—it’s about ensuring residents have access to jobs, education, healthcare, and essential services," City Councilmember Rick Jennings, chair of the SacRT board, conveyed in a statement obtained by Sacramento City Express. But before this vision could take shape, the industrial site underwent extensive environmental remediation, supported by a $350,000 Brownfields Cleanup Grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and additional city funds.

Construction for the Dos Rios Station is slated to begin this summer with expectations for the station to be operational by the end of 2026. The funding recipe is a medley of grants and allocations: $17.6 million from the Transformative Climate Communities Program, $10 million in Senate Bill 125 funds, $2.5 million from the Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program, and $9.5 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity Program that sealed the deal on the $43 million budget necessary for the station’s construction.

Once the Dos Rios Station is complete, residents will experience improved connectivity, facilitating access to employment centers, services, retail, and downtown Sacramento. The Mirasol Village, a key beneficiary of this development, is a re-envisioned 427-unit mixed income housing community, which has benefited from a collage of funding including a hefty $30 million grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Choice Neighborhoods Initiatives Implementation Grant, various city and state funds, and substantial private investments. The broader revitalization of the community encompasses not only housing but also parks, a community garden, and an early childhood education center.
