A Salt Lake City kidnapping incident came to a close with the safe recovery of an 18-month-old girl and the arrest of four individuals, including the child's mother. Holly Angelina Smith, 32, defied a court order to relinquish custody of her daughter, Josephina Jimenez, following a ruling due to concerns of neglect and drug use, as reported by ABC4. Subsequently, an AMBER Alert was issued.
Smith was aided by three accomplices, including Jose Francisco Robles-Prieto, 47; Joey Jimenez, 41; and Eric Mathew Jimenez, 37. According to KUTV, Robles-Prieto is charged with felony obstruction of justice and child endangerment for providing false information to police to hinder the investigation. The Jimenez individuals face obstruction, with Eric accused of withholding information about the baby's location.
The Salt Lake City Police Department, aided by the Special Victims Unit and the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, located Smith and her daughter huddled behind a shopping cart on the corner of Redwood Road and Paxton Avenue, as mentioned by FOX 13. The child was found hidden under blankets in the cart during the investigation.
Paramedics assessed the child at the scene, finding no visible signs of injury, drug paraphernalia, including a glass pipe with white and burnt residue, was also located within the shopping cart. Smith now faces charges of child kidnapping, child endangerment, and providing false or misleading information to law enforcement officers. More details about the case are expected to be announced shortly, according to ABC4.
