A man accused of fleeing from police and possessing fentanyl was arrested by Salt Lake City Police Department's Pioneer Patrol Division. The incident began on Saturday, at approximately 7:56 p.m., near a convenience store at 490 North Redwood Road. According to SLCPD, the 39-year-old Anthony Brickhouse was found inside an SUV that had previously driven off during a traffic stop attempt.
Upon approach by officers, Brickhouse was ordered to get out of the vehicle, which he did, but is accused of then attempting to immediately run away. He tripped during the chase, causing multiple suspected M30 fentanyl pills to scatter onto the ground. Brickhouse was safely apprehended by the officers and taken to the hospital to be observed, after claiming to have swallowed some of the pills. Hospital staff, however, found no signs of an overdose after monitoring his health for approximately three hours.
Following the arrest, officers searched the SUV, uncovering more suspected fentanyl pills and drug paraphernalia. Brickhouse also allegedly provided false information regarding his identity to police. He is now facing several charges, including unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, and providing false information belonging to a real person. "Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt," as stated by SLCPD.
