After more than three decades of service, Salt Lake City Police Department Chief Mike Brown is set to retire at the end of February. According to Salt Lake City, his tenure as Chief, which began in 2015, will come to a close on February 28. Under his leadership, Brown has overseen initiatives that have notably led to driving overall crime rates in Salt Lake City to a 16-year low. During his career, Chief Brown made strides in shaping key department policies. He was instrumental in establishing Salt Lake City's anti-vehicle cruising ordinance, as well as the city's first-ever POST-certified training satellite academy. His role in major events like the 2002 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Torch Run also stands out as a highlight in his distinguished record of public service, as detailed by Salt Lake City.
Chief Brown's efforts to modernize the police force are also of note.
