A recent arrest in San Marcos has highlighted the ongoing issue of "ghost guns" in the area. Daniel Castellanos, born January 10, 2003, was taken into custody on weapons charges related to the possession of an unregistered and unserialized handgun. The arrest occurred last Saturday following a deputy-initiated search of Castellanos' vehicle, where the firearm was discovered beside the gas pedal.

Castellanos was already sought after for a domestic violence incident that transpired in Vista last Friday. Upon his arrest in the 900 block of Mendocino Drive, the San Diego County Sheriff's Office found that alongside the handgun were a large capacity magazine and indications of criminal storage of firearms. These findings led to multiple felony charges, including the manufacture, sale, or possession of an undetectable firearm and carrying a loaded handgun not registered to the owner, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

Following the arrest, Castellanos faces multiple felony charges, which include: Manufacture/Sale/Possess Undetectable Firearm (24610 PC), Criminal Storage of Firearm: First Degree (25100(A) PC), Carry Loaded Handgun: Not Registered Owner (25850(C)(6) PC), and Possession of Large Capacity Magazine (32310(A) PC). The Vista Detention Facility is now holding Castellanos. The Sheriff's Office urges anyone who observes criminal activity, particularly relating to illegal firearms, to contact law enforcement at (858) 868-3200.
