Residents in South Palm Beach County are gearing up for a series of roadworks that are expected to significantly affect traffic flow over the next week. Notably, SR 808/Glades Road will see closures in both directions at various times for maintenance operations. BocaNewsNow reports that detours will be in place to navigate motorists around the Glades Road closures, with the Florida Highway Patrol on-site to assist and signage to guide the detours.
The Yamato Road Resurfacing, Restoration, and Rehabilitation Project is set to begin February 11, and spans from east of SR 9/I-95 to SR 5/US 1/Federal Highway. Community Outreach Specialist Melissa Readling told BocaNewsNow that the project will include milling and repaving the existing roadway, upgrading curb ramps, replacing select sidewalk sections, and enhancing safety features like new LED pedestrian signal heads at crosswalks. An open house and virtual public meeting are scheduled tomorrow, to provide further information and address the public's questions.
Another project is the SR A1A/South Ocean Boulevard Resurfacing Project, which started previously in May 2024. This project involves milling and resurfacing the existing roadway, including the widening to accommodate five-foot bicycle lanes. BocaNewsNow indicates that one lane in each direction will have intermittent closures, with flaggers directing traffic as needed.
In addition, the City of Boynton Beach is improving sidewalks and bicycle lanes on SR 804/Boynton Beach Boulevard and W Ocean Avenue. This work is part of a project that began in May 2024, aiming not only to improve the roadway but also to expand pedestrian and biking infrastructure. Driveway and business access will be maintained, and pedestrian detours will be clearly marked during the construction, as noted by Community Outreach Specialist Melissa Readling in a statement obtained by BocaNewsNow.
For citizens seeking the latest information on the Yamato Road project, including details on traffic impacts and construction phases, they can visit the FDOT Palm Beach County Construction page. According to an announcement on myboca.us, temporary lane closures are expected, with "Work will be done in phases to reduce the effects of construction to the community."
