Following a high-speed pursuit that concluded by the edge of the River Des Peres, St. Louis police apprehended a man while a second suspect eludes capture. According to Fox2Now, the episode unfolded when a vehicle was spotted driving erratically on Broadway, which then hit a bicyclist and sideswiped another car after failing to stop for police.
The driver of the car, in a bid to avoid apprehension, abandoned the vehicle and jumped into the River Des Peres near the River City Casino. He was subsequently taken into custody and is facing charges of felony fleeing and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident. The passenger, however, managed to evade the law enforcement officers who are driving the investigation forward to identify them, as KSDK stated.
The struck bicyclist was transported to the hospital in stable condition, while the other involved motorist escaped injury. As it stands, no injuries were reported among the officers at the scene. St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson, Mitch McCoy, emphasized the suspect’s subsequent custody, while the search for the passenger continues, in a statement to KSDK.
The pursuit resulting in the suspect plunging into the river involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including St. Louis County Police and the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Following a desperate attempt to escape by the driver seeking refuge into the waters that delineate city from county, aid was provided by the responding highway patrol and county officers, as noted by First Alert 4. Anyone with information regarding the identity or whereabouts of the elusive passenger is encouraged to contact local authorities.
