Heads up, St. Louis Park community, your fitness plans just got a weather-related shuffle. For those looking to join the Walk the Park event initially slated for Feb. 8, you'll have to lace up your sneakers for a later date. Due to a sneak attack by Old Man Winter, organizers are pushing the community walk to Saturday, Feb. 15, from 9:30 – 10:30 am at St. Louis Park Middle School, because, safety first—or so the updated bulletin from the City of St. Louis Park, Minnesota suggest.
And since we're in Minnesota, where the weather plays by its own rules, here's the deal: meet at door 16 of the middle school located at 2025 Texas Ave. S. Now, if the sky decides to open up again or the cold decides to bite with temperatures dipping below the 40-degree mark, the walk will move indoors. So, remember, rain or snow, you're still good to go, just inside.
The Walk the Park is no one-hit-wonder; it's a monthly affair that takes locals through different parts of the St. Louis Park trail system—a chance to commune with neighbors and get those steps in. Participation is free, which is always a sweet deal. According to an official statement from the administration, "The walks are free." So, whether you're a devoted pedestrian or just trying to escape the couch, there's no excuse not to join in.
Looking forward, future walks have been penciled in—so jot these down. March 8 will see walkers back at St. Louis Park Middle School while April 12 has Lamplighter Park playing host. Each walk is penciled in, same time, same drill, from 9:30 – 10:30 am.
