A 30-year-old man was apprehended in connection to a carjacking incident involving a 72-year-old woman in Morton Grove, authorities reported. The suspect, identified as Sergio Diaz-Siso, is now facing multiple charges. According to NBC Chicago, Diaz-Siso has been charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking, aggravated battery, and aggravated fleeing and eluding.

Law enforcement officials responded to the incident which occurred on Friday around 11:43 a.m. on the 6900 block of Dempster Street. The victim, a senior Chicago woman, was reportedly forced to the ground as her car keys were taken, subsequently leading to her vehicle, a 2009 Toyota Yaris, being stolen. She sustained minor injuries to the head and arms. Officers managed to locate the vehicle shortly after and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, only to have the suspect abruptly flee the scene, CBS News describes.

The Toyota Yaris was eventually found in a parking lot located in the 9000 block of Waukegan Road. Diaz-Siso was arrested without further incident. The carjacking victim's name has not been released, but police confirmed that her injuries were not life-threatening. The charges laid upon Diaz-Siso reflect the severity of the offenses, and as of the latest updates, he is scheduled for a pretrial detention hearing at the Second District Courthouse in Skokie on the following Saturday.
